Health Sciences Building upgrades begin January 2026 to support new and expanding programs

Renovation activities will focus on priority areas to optimize existing spaces for teaching, learning, research, and collaboration in the health sciences.

A tender has been issued for work in the Health Sciences Building to begin in early 2026, starting with priority areas identified through a space optimization study co-funded by the University of Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Advanced Education to make the most of existing space. This work is an important step toward creating modern, accessible spaces that support new and expanding health science programs funded through the Government of Saskatchewan’s Health Human Resources Action Plan.

Although some construction sounds and limited disruptions will occur, the university is committed to minimizing inconvenience. Those directly impacted have already been contacted by their college, school, or unit. Signage will be posted around the renovation areas. Updates will continue to be shared as details are confirmed to keep people informed throughout the process.

Renovation work will bring some unavoidable disruption, and patience during this time is greatly appreciated. The university understands these changes can interfere with important teaching, learning, and research, and steps will be taken to reduce the impact—including efforts to limit noise during examination periods—while preparing spaces for new and expanding programs.

The first stage of renovation activity focuses on reconfiguring space for new programs being created in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences. Areas affected include:

  • B Wing, 1st Floor: Renovations to create new teaching spaces and labs required for Speech Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy programs in accordance with accreditation requirements.
  • E Wing, 3rd Floor: Renovations to develop faculty and staff workspaces and areas for teaching support and student support in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences.

Additional phases will follow as part of the broader plan to optimize space in the Health Sciences Building. Learn more about how these priority areas were identified.

Once this work is complete, optimized spaces will support new and expanded health science programs, strengthen Saskatchewan’s health workforce, and create further opportunities for interprofessional education and collaboration. While this work may cause temporary disruptions, it is an important step toward achieving these goals. These improvements will help prepare the next generation of health professionals and advance care across the province, in Canada and around the world—reflecting the university’s commitment to “Be What the World Needs” and its vision for leadership in health education and research.
