Interim associate provost, health, reappointed for second term

Health science researcher and kinesiology professor Dr. Adam Baxter-Jones (PhD) has been reappointed as the University of Saskatchewan's interim associate provost, health.

Dr. Adam Baxter-Jones (PhD) has been reappointed for a second term as the interim associate provost, health, for the University of Saskatchewan (USask).

Baxter-Jones joined the USask faculty in 2000 and held a number of leadership roles during his time on campus before assuming leadership of the USask Health Sciences. These positions include Associate Dean (Graduate Education and Research) College of Kinesiology (2008-2010, 2011-2012), Acting Dean College of Kinesiology (2010-2011), and Interim Dean, College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (2013-2017).

A former president of the North American Society for Pediatric Exercise Medicine, Dr. Baxter-Jones has spent the past three decades researching children growth, maturation and development in relation to physical activity, sport, and exercise.

In addition to membership with the Canadian Institute of Health’s (CIHR) College of Reviewers, Baxter-Jones is also the scientific officer on CIHR’s Social & Developmental Aspects of Children’s and Youth’s Health (CHI) committee. He has worked on the USask Associate Deans Research Forum and the Health Sciences Research Advisory Committee as a member of the Biomedical Imaging & Therapy (BMIT) Beam Team at the Canadian Light Source (CLS) and as a leader of a Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF) health research group investigating bone health.

The associate provost, health is responsible for supporting USask's vision to become the university the world needs by fostering excellence in interprofessional practices, interdisciplinary life, and health science discovery and by integrating education, research, policy, and practices to improve health outcomes for the diverse Peoples of Saskatchewan, Canada, and the world.

Dr. Baxter-Jones’ first term began July 15, 2020. His appointment has been extended until the end of June, 2022.
