B-Wing Power Shutdown

Updates regarding the Dec 10 power outage in the Health Sciences Building B-Wing can be found here.

Dec 12:

On Tuesday, Dec. 10 a damaged water line was discovered in Health Sciences B-Wing, requiring an emergency shutdown of power and water.

Repairs to the damaged water line are nearly complete, and water has been restored to both A-Wing and B-Wing. Alternative sources of power have been established and power has been restored to B-Wing.

Normal building operations may now resume, however building occupants can anticipate some additional repairs over the coming weeks.

Students who have exams scheduled in Health Sciences A-Wing or B-Wing can expect those exams to proceed as planned, unless an instructor has provided other direction.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Dec 11:

As communicated Dec. 10, a large water supply pipe on the 4th floor of Health Sciences B-Wing cracked due to cold weather. This caused significant water damage to the electrical supply for B-Wing and required the water to be shutoff in A-Wing and B-Wing.

Water service has been restored to all areas of the building as of late afternoon Dec. 10. Lighting has been restored to all floors and power has been restored to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th floors of B-Wing but power to electrical outlets on Ground and 1st floors of B-Wing remains off.

We do not have a date and time as to when power will be restored to Ground and 1st floor as the extent of the damage is still being assessed but we are planning for an extended outage. The priorities for getting limited power via extension cords will be as follows:

  1. Lab freezers and fridges
  2. Other essential laboratory equipment (if power is available)

NOTE: Offices affected by the power outage will likely not receive power until everything is repaired. For student/exam issues, room scheduling and course instructors will manage communications to those affected.

USask Health Sciences services affected by the power outage:

  1. Health Sciences Supply Centre
    • limited services as all of the computers and phones are down
    • please contact stores in person for more information

Further updates will be provided to those affected as information becomes available.

Dec 10:

The power is currently off in B-Wing with emergency power where available. A-Wing is currently without water, but the building is safe and accessible. If power and water have not been restored by this afternoon, exams may be relocated. All affected students will be notified.

Thank you for your patience as we work toward finding solutions to the number of issues this incident has caused students, faculty, and staff.
