Booking calendars for shared equipment are provided via QReserve. For any issues with booking shared equipment, please email hsc.qreserve@usask.ca.

Three sectioning workstations are available with float baths and required accessories.

Disposable blades are available for purchase — please see the current price list for cost-recovery pricing. Users are responsible for providing their own slides.

The booking calendars for these workstations are listed with each unit.

Please contact the facility histologist at hsbhistology@usask.ca for more information and training prior to booking and using these instruments.

Leica Digital Microtome

The Leica digital microtome provides tracked sequential sectioning and has a disposable blade holder.

This microtome only mounts histocassette blocks.

Disposable blades are available upon request for a cost-recovery fee.

NOTE: The Leask research group has priority for scheduling of this workstation.

Leica HistoCore Multicut Microtome

There is one workstation containing a Leica HistoCore Multicut microtome with a disposable blade holder for sectioning of FFPE samples as well as undecalcified bone tissue.

This microtome only mounts histocassette blocks.

Regular and disposable blades are available upon request for a cost-recovery fee.

Microm Automated Microtome

The Microm 350S automated microtome provides tracked sequential sectioning. It has blade holders for traditional and thicker tungsten carbide blades.

This microtome holds both styles of paraffin blocks and acrylic blocks. 

Blades are available upon request for a cost-recovery fee.

NOTE: The Cooper research group has priority for scheduling of this workstation.

Cryostat

The Leica CM1950 cryostat is available for cryosectioning of previously prepared frozen sections.

Same day cryostat booking is not available — please book a minimum of 48 hours prior to ensure the unit is chilled and prepared for use.

NOTE: The Leask research group has priority for scheduling of this workstation.

Vibratome

The vibratome is available upon request for vibrational sectioning of prepared tissues.

Please book at least 24 hours prior to use.

Tetrander

There is currently no booking calendar for this equipment. Please confirm availability prior to use.

Training with and the use of this equipment should be arranged by emailing the facility histologist at hsbhistology@usask.ca.

Glass Knife Maker

A glass knife maker is available to create glass blades for unique sectioning protocols.
